Met Office forecasters expect rain between 3pm and 6pm in the city today (Thursday, December 3) before the storm arrives tomorrow afternoon.
Yellow weather warnings for rain are in place from tomorrow until Sunday.
Strong winds are also expected, with forecasters warning that York could see gusts of up to 60mph on Saturday afternoon.
An amber warning for wind is in place for the west coast of England on Saturday.
The Met Office said Storm Darragh is expected to bring 20-30mm of rainfall to most parts of the country, with as much as 50-60mm over higher ground in the south and southwest.
This “may lead to some local flooding and transport disruption”, a spokesperson said.
People are being warned to act on flood plans and check journeys before travelling.
The Met Office said there is also a chance of power cuts while the yellow warning is in place.
