INVESTIGATION work is underway after a large fire in East Yorkshire.

The fire, which happened at R. Farrows & Sons scrapyard in Pocklington yesterday evening (February 25), saw the A0179 closed in both directions whilst firefighters tackled the blaze.

Flames were said to be up to ‘30m high’ and visible from nearby Market Weighton.

A representative from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 4.44pm on Tuesday 25 February to a large scrapyard fire at an industrial site in Pocklington.

“On arrival, crews faced approximately 550 tonnes of scrap metal and vehicles well alight. Multiple fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent.

“To ensure adequate access and water supply from hydrants, police closed nearby roads to accommodate the necessary appliances.
