Highs of 31C have been forecast for York today (Monday, June 30) as an amber heat alert remains in place for the city.

The Met Office has said temperatures of 29C are expected this morning, rising to 30C from 3pm until 5pm.

An amber heat alert remains in place until Wednesday morning.

Forecasters expect temperatures to drop slightly from 6pm today but stay warm between 18C and 20C tonight.

Cooler temperatures of between 18C and 23C are forecast for tomorrow with the Met Office predicting sunny intervals changing to clouds by lunchtime.

It comes after York experienced hot weather over the weekend during York Racecourse’s Music Showcase Weekend headlined by Olly Murs.

The racecourse relaxed its dress code due to the hot weather by allowing men to enter its county sand and hospitality sections without a formal jacket.

“But gents, please remember a collared shirt and tie is still required,” a racecourse spokesperson said ahead of the event.
