A SUPERMARKET giant's plans for illuminated advertising roughly the same area as football goalposts at one of its York stores have been refused.
City of York Council planning officers turned down a planning application from Lidl for a sign next to the carpark at its supermarket in James Street.
The dualling of the York Outer Ring Road could be staggered to allow time to find new funding, a report outlining options to address a £110 million shortfall has stated.
A City of York Council report stated the project including dualling the road between the A19 and Little Hopgrove roundabout could still be achieved if its delivery is carefully phased.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeperson said: "Robert Elkes, aged 30, was arrested on June 5 and has been remanded in custody to appear at York Magistrates' Court today (June 6) charged with wounding with intent and possessing a knife."

Bosses at discount retailer The Works say they have had their eye on a location for ‘some time’ now. The 1,700 sq ft store is in the former EE unit at Monks Cross - in between Regatta and Pizza Hut – and will be the fourth store in the city for the retailer.
Work to develop York’s Coney Street and open the area up to the nearby riverside is due to start in the coming months, a director of the group behind the plans has said.
Speaking to The Press, Max Reeves, development director at the Helmsley Group, said the York-based company is aiming to start work at the site in September.
