A new “rock and roll gothic boutique” is opening in York.

Nox of York opens on Saturday (February 15) at 10am in Goodramgate.

Founders Hannah Heretik, 28, and Oli Brown, 35, hope the store – inside the former Viking-themed shop, the Knutti Store – becomes a hub for the gothic community in York.

“We want it to be an inclusive and safe space for people in the gothic community,” Hannah said. “It’s got a vibe and energy to it.”

She added that she wants it to be a space where “no one feels intimidated".

“It’s exciting to be opening a shop in the perfect city for us,” Oli said. “There’s a great gothic community in York.”

The couple live in Retford, Nottinghamshire, but said they “love York” and “visited a lot” before deciding to “pull the trigger” and open a shop in the city.

They previously worked full-time in the music industry: Hannah worked backstage managing artists and organising events, and Oli plays in the rock band Oli Brown and The Dead Collective.
