The Wellington Inn, in Alma Terrace, Fishergate, is seeking new management after the sudden closure.
Owned by Samuel Smith's Brewery, the pub has been through a series of openings and closures over recent years. One such period of closure and reopening - in 2020 - lasted less than two weeks.
The Press reported on its sudden closure in 2017, in which regulars said the pub had stood in Alma Terrace for more than 60 years. Samuel Smith's has previously asked tenants to live on site, and manage as a couple.
The brewery has been in the news in recent years, as pub such as the York Arms, High Petergate, and The Brown Cow, Hope Street, have failed to find new management after lengthy closures.
