They were travelling in a silver Subaru which left the road in Meaux Lane, Beverley, at 5pm yesterday (Thursday, January 16), Humberside Police said.
The force said a 37-year-old man, who was the passenger in the car, was found dead at the scene by the emergency services.
“His family have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist trained officers at this extremely difficult time,” a police spokesperson said.
A 38-year-old man, who was driving the Subaru, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
The Subaru was travelling north along Meaux Lane with a black Vauxhall Mokka when the car left the road.
Police said the driver of the Mokka, a 36-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody whilst the investigation continue.
Officers urge anyone who saw the crash, including those with dashcam footage, to phone 101 quoting log 320 of 16 January.
