A heavy metal gig at York Minster has almost sold out – despite it causing controversy among some churchgoers.

Tickets for the Plague of Angels’ concert, Organic Metal: Two Worlds Collide, inside the ancient cathedral on April 25 were put on sale on Monday morning (February 3).

National newspapers reported how some members of the Minster’s congregation raised concern over the English band’s planned performance.

Despite the controversy, however, a York Minster spokesperson told The Press: “Most tickets sold out within an hour of it going on sale.”

Parishioners – speaking to the Guardian – said Plague of Angel’s Minster concert was an “outright insult” to their faith after it emerged that two of the group’s members performed with extreme-metal group Cradle of Filth.

Cradle of Filth sold what Rolling Stone described as “the most controversial shirt in rock history” which featured a topless nun performing a sex act, as well as a profanity about Jesus.
