Cllr Margaret Wells is set to return to the role of York’s lord mayor after councillors approved her nomination.
The Labour ward member for Clifton, who served as lord mayor during the 2024-5 municipal year, is due to take on the role next May.
Cllr Wells said the nomination was a huge honour, adding she had only scratched the surface of meeting York’s army of volunteers when she previously held the post.
Current Conservative Lord Mayor Cllr Martin Rowley said he and his current civic party looked forward to working with Cllr Wells next year.
The Labour Clifton councillor is currently the council’s deputy mayor.
She is set to become York’s lord mayor at the council’s annual general meeting in May when Cllr Rowley’s term ends.
