Here’s why police have been out in force in York

Project Servator police have been in Blake Street and Museum Gardens.

Project Servator police have been in Blake Street and Museum Gardens.

Specially trained officers have been out talking to members of the public in Blake Street, close to York railway station and in Museum Gardens, as part of Project Servator or 'unpredictable policing' which launched in North Yorkshire seven years ago.

A police spokesman said: "Project Servator is a policing tactic that aims to disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public."
