Selby District Council held its final full Council meeting in the Council’s Civic Chamber. As part of the meeting the Chairman, Cllr Ian Chilvers, issued cheques to his chosen charities.
Every year the Chairman of the Council supports their chosen charities and hosts events, such as concerts, to raise funds. Cllr Chilvers has been able to raise £3,200 through his work raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Research and Long Covid Kids, a charity helping local children fighting long covid.
Cllr Chilvers is the final Chairman appointed to Selby District Council, as the new North Yorkshire Council launches on the 1 April 2023. The role of Council Chairman is largely ceremonial, with the post-holder focussing on fundraising and organising and attending Civic functions. Cllr Chilvers represented the Council at a range of events and activities, as well as presiding over Council meetings. His consort for the year was his wife, Cllr Judith Chilvers.
Cllr Chilvers also previously served as chairman in 2009/2010.
Cllr Chilvers commented, “It has been an honour to wear the chains again and be the final Chairman to represent Selby District Council.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me during my year as Chairman, especially those who have attended my civic events. I am proud to have raised £3200 for my chosen charities and present the cheques at full Council yesterday.”
